LAS VEGAS, Sept. 4 — The World Master IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship opened its first day of competition on Thursday, with results rolling in across divisions that stretch from competitors in their early thirties to athletes aged 61 and beyond. The story of this tournament, at its heart, is one of longevity. Day 1 results, published Friday by Yahoo Sports and FloSports, covered a sweeping range of age brackets — Master 1 through Master 7 — and weight classes from Light Feather to Ultra Heavy.
The event runs in conjunction with IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con, and full match-by-match results were detailed in a piece by Tobias Linkin published at 2:41 AM UTC on September 4.
A Calendar Anchored in Age Divisions
The competitive structure is precise. Master 1 covers ages 30 to 35, with divisions including Feather, Light, Medium Heavy, Heavy, Ultra Heavy, Light Feather, and Super Heavy. Master 2, for ages 36 to 40, saw action in Feather, Light, Super Heavy, and Ultra Heavy.
Master 3 — ages 41 to 45 — contested the widest slate, spanning Light Feather, Feather, Light, Medium Heavy, Heavy, Super Heavy, and Ultra Heavy. Older brackets were no less active.
Master 4 (ages 46 to 50) competed in Medium Heavy and Heavy, while Master 5 (ages 51 to 55) covered Light Feather, Feather, Light, Medium Heavy, Heavy, and Super Heavy. Master 6, for ages 56 to 60, saw Heavy division matches, and Master 7 — athletes 61 and older — took to the mats in Light Feather, Light, Medium Heavy, Heavy, and Ultra Heavy.
