BMW iX3 launches Neue Klasse platform with 805km range and 400kW charging

UAE, November 4, 2026 — BMW has launched the new iX3 in the United Arab Emirates, marking the debut of the automaker’s all-new Neue Klasse electric vehicle architecture. The premium SUV arrives with a claimed range of up to 805 kilometres and charging speeds up to 400kW, setting fresh benchmarks for the segment.

New architecture, new benchmarks

The iX3 is the first production model built on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, a dedicated EV architecture that shares nothing with the company’s combustion-engine vehicles. According to Khaleej Times, the platform is powered by BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, which delivers the record range figure and the 400kW ultra-fast charging capability. In plain terms, that charging speed means the battery can recover enough energy for hundreds of kilometres in the time it takes to grab a coffee, a practical upshot for long-distance travel in the Gulf region.

The platform also introduces a new computing backbone. The vehicle runs on four high-performance “superbrain” computers that manage everything from the drivetrain to the infotainment system. Think of it like upgrading from a collection of separate calculators to a single, central mainframe: the car can process sensor data and driver inputs 20 times faster than previous BMW electrical architectures, according to MotorTrend’s reporting on the related 7 Series update.

‘Heart of Joy’ and the panoramic display

Central to the new digital experience is BMW’s “Heart of Joy” drivetrain and dynamics management system. It coordinates the dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup — both the iX3 40 and 50 variants get a motor on each axle, with the rear unit providing more power to preserve the brand’s traditional rear-drive feel. The 40 produces 369 horsepower and hits 60 mph in 5.4 seconds; the 50 bumps output to 462 horsepower and cuts that sprint to 4.7 seconds, according to Irish News testing data.

Inside, the dashboard is dominated by the new Panoramic iDrive system. A key feature is “Panoramic Vision,” a floating display that spans the entire width of the windscreen, projecting key data directly into the driver’s line of sight. BMW says it started “with a blank sheet of paper” for the infotainment software, building an AI-enabled ecosystem designed for natural language interaction and over-the-air updates. Knitted textile accents run across the dashboard to soften the high-tech minimalism, a detail noted by Khaleej Times as a deliberate move to keep the cabin feeling warm.

Sustainability and dimensions

BMW claims a reduction of more than 30 percent in the vehicle’s lifecycle carbon footprint compared to its predecessor, achieved through material choices and manufacturing processes. The iX3 measures 4,782mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,635mm high, retaining classic Sports Activity Vehicle proportions while achieving a drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd — among the slipperiest in the electric SUV class, per Tarmac Life. Optional 22-inch alloy wheels add visual drama, though larger wheels typically increase energy consumption and can reduce real-world range.

Market context and availability

The UAE launch places the iX3 into a crowded premium EV arena. The model has already been named a finalist for the 2027 Car of the Year award, joining an all-electric shortlist for the first time in the prize’s 63-year history, according to Driven. Pricing and specific delivery timelines for the UAE market have not been announced; the model is rolling out globally with New Zealand pricing starting at NZ$125,000 for the base variant, rising significantly with options such as the Frozen Space Silver metallic paint (NZ$6,000) and 22-inch M light alloy wheels (NZ$7,700), per Tarmac Life.
