Tata Sierra Captures 10,000 Sales Since November Launch, Challenging Kia Seltos

The midsize SUV fight in Pakistan just got real. For months, the Kia Seltos had the segment nearly to itself. Then Tata dropped the Sierra in November 2025.

Now, 10,000 deliveries later, the numbers tell a clear story: buyers are actually choosing the new entrant over the established nameplate. The price gap at the entry level is razor-thin.

The Sierra starts at Rs 11.49 lakh ex-showroom. The Seltos begins at Rs 11 lakh. That Rs 50,000 difference is small enough that the badge alone no longer decides the sale.

People are looking past the brand and at what each car actually gives them for the money. Both SUVs cover a wide price band.

The Seltos ranges from Rs 11 lakh up to Rs 19.51 lakh. The Sierra goes from Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh. So at the top end, Tata asks for more.

The question is whether buyers see the extra cost as justified. Engine choices look like a tie on paper. Tata offers three 1.5-litre options: a 104.5 hp naturally aspirated petrol, a 158 hp turbo-petrol with a 7-speed DCT, and a 116.3 hp diesel making 280 Nm of torque.

Kia counters with a 111.4 hp petrol, a 158 hp turbo-petrol DCT, and a 112.4 hp diesel available with either a manual or torque-converter automatic. The turbo-petrol outputs are nearly identical.

So this is not really an engine question. The real difference comes down to gearbox feel and refinement — something buyers should experience on a test drive rather than judge from spec sheets alone. Where the Sierra pulls ahead is features.

This is its strongest case. It offers a triple-screen dashboard.

It has a panoramic sunroof that Tata claims is the largest in its segment. There is a head-up display. Ventilated seats come for both rows.

The boot space is 622 litres — notably larger than most rivals. Those are not small details. In a market where families use SUVs for everything from school runs to long road trips, that extra space and those comfort features matter.

Why does this matter now? Because the midsize SUV segment in Pakistan has been a slow-moving game.

For years, a handful of players dominated. The Seltos was the benchmark. But the Sierra’s rapid climb to 10,000 deliveries suggests the benchmark has shifted.

Buyers are voting with their wallets. They are choosing the car that gives them more hardware — more screen real estate, more sunroof glass, more boot space — over the car that simply has a longer history on the road.

The Seltos still has its strengths. Kia’s dealer network is established. The brand has years of trust built up.

But the Sierra is making a strong argument that value is not just about the price tag. It is about what you get for that price. And right now, Tata is offering a package that makes buyers think twice before signing on the dotted line for the Kia.

The next few months will tell if this is a temporary surge or a lasting shift. But early findings are clear: the Sierra is giving the Seltos a serious run for its money.

And for a segment that has not seen real competition in years, that is a healthy thing for buyers.
