Tata Sierra Sales Exceed 10,000 Units in Pakistan, Challenging Kia Seltos

ISLAMABAD — The math on a Rs 50,000 price gap is straightforward. That is roughly what a family spends on one decent dinner out, or a single tire for a car that costs 11 lakh rupees. Yet in Pakistan’s midsize SUV market, that narrow difference between the entry-level Kia Seltos and the new Tata Sierra is forcing buyers to rethink what they are actually paying for.

The Sierra launched in November 2025, and Tata has already delivered more than 10,000 units. That number matters.

It means real people, not just reviewers, are making this choice with their own money. The Seltos starts at Rs 11 lakh ex-showroom; the Sierra begins at Rs 11.49 lakh. At the top end, the gap widens — the Seltos tops out at Rs 19.51 lakh, the Sierra at Rs 21.29 lakh.

But the entry-level difference is negligible. The brand badge, once a safe bet, now carries less weight when the spec sheets are this close.

Engine options do not settle the argument. Both SUVs offer three 1.5-litre choices. Tata gives buyers a 104.5 hp naturally aspirated petrol, a 158 hp turbo-petrol with a 7-speed DCT, and a 116.3 hp diesel making 280 Nm of torque.

Kia counters with a 111.4 hp petrol, a 158 hp turbo-petrol DCT, and a 112.4 hp diesel available with either a manual or torque-converter automatic. The turbo-petrol numbers are nearly identical. The real difference, as the data suggests, comes down to gearbox feel and refinement — things a test drive reveals and a spec sheet hides.

Where the Sierra stakes its claim is on features. It offers a triple-screen dashboard.

A panoramic sunroof that Tata calls the largest in its segment. A head-up display. Ventilated seats for both rows.

The boot space measures 622 litres. That is notably larger than most rivals in the segment.

These are not minor additions. For a family loading luggage, groceries, or children’s sports gear, 622 litres versus whatever the Seltos offers is a concrete, measurable difference. For a driver in Islamabad’s summer heat, ventilated seats for both rows is not a luxury — it is a daily comfort.

What is at stake here is not just which SUV sells more units in a given month. The stakes are about whether a new entrant can dislodge an established player by offering more for roughly the same money. The Seltos has been a safe choice for buyers who value reliability and resale.

The Sierra is asking those same buyers to gamble on a newer model with a different badge, but with a feature list that is hard to ignore. If 10,000 deliveries in a few months is any indication, the gamble is paying off.

The price band for both vehicles is wide. The Seltos ranges from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 19.51 lakh. The Sierra spans Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh.

That means buyers at the lower end face a tight decision, while those at the top end have more room to weigh options. The gap at entry level is roughly Rs 50,000.

That is a small enough number to make the decision emotional rather than purely financial. The brand badge matters less. What each car delivers for the price matters more.

Buyers should drive both before deciding. The engine outputs are close. The features are not.

The Sierra’s triple-screen dashboard, head-up display, and ventilated seats for both rows are not things a spec sheet can fully convey. Neither is the feel of a gearbox or the refinement of a cabin.

The data is clear: the two SUVs are competing on nearly equal terms. The choice now depends on what a buyer values in a test drive, not in a brochure.
