MUNICH, June 29 — Harry Kane is expected to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich despite reported interest from Barcelona, according to sources familiar with the situation. The LaLiga club are reportedly exploring how to finance a possible deal for the Bayern striker. But, as reported by Sky Sports News earlier on Monday, it is understood that Kane and his family are very happy with life in Munich.
Both Bayern and Kane are relaxed about his contract situation even though he only has one year left on his current deal. And with his sole focus right now being on England at the World Cup, any developments regarding his future will not come until after the tournament.
The numbers tell the story. Kane registered his 70th goal this season for club and country by doubling England’s lead against Panama in their final Group L match. Kane contributed 61 club goals and seven assists in 51 games in the 2025/26 season.
The last player to score this many in all competitions was Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid back in the 2014/15 season. The trophy haul this season is substantial.
Kane has won three trophies this season, including the German Super Cup, Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, as well as winning the European Golden Shoe by being the top goal scorer across Europe’s top five leagues. This is his second European Golden Shoe — only a handful of players have two, and just Messi (6) and Ronaldo (4) have more. Sky Sports’ Gary Neville offered his assessment: “I can see why Barcelona would want him.
I can see why any club in the world would want him that is trying to win trophies at an elite level. Harry Kane is as reliable as you can get. In football and in life, you want reliability.
You want players who you know are going to deliver for you. He does that.
I describe him as gold.” Neville added: “England also know exactly what they are going to get and I’m sure he will be fit and firing for the [World Cup] knockout phase. This is where the tournament starts for real. All the best teams are through.” The strategic context is clear.
Barcelona’s interest faces the obstacle of Bayern’s negotiating position and Kane’s own contentment in Munich. The English striker has built a career on consistency, and the record shows he delivers at the highest level.
For now, the World Cup takes priority. The contract talks will wait.
