Some Honda owners took their cars in to have a dangerous tire repair kit fixed, and drove away with the same fault. Honda has now recalled 4,804 vehicles for a second time to put that right.
The kit and what it does
The part in question is the sealant bottle in the temporary tire repair kit. A compressor pushes air and sealant into a punctured tire. If the nozzle is not seated properly on the tire valve, pressure can build inside the bottle, and if the pressure-relief valve then fails to do its job, the cap can detach with force and hurt whoever is using the kit.
The first recall, 26V366, came in June 2026 and covered 1,049,883 vehicles. NHTSA’s original investigation traced the trouble to a design that did not allow for the pressure buildup, plus relief valves that were improperly adjusted. By May 28, 2026, Honda had logged 53 warranty claims and eight injury reports. Nobody had died.
A warehouse mix-up
Honda’s answer was a redesigned nozzle. Its supplier, Tek Corporation, then failed to keep old and new parts apart. According to an October 8 NHTSA filing, weak controls at Tek’s warehouse let recalled parts get mixed in with the replacements, and some of them were shipped to Honda in place of the updated versions. Under the hood, the repair simply put the old part back.

Honda spotted the problem on July 3, when a dealership received the wrong replacement parts. It then went through inventories and shipments, identified the affected vehicles in September and approved the second recall on October 1. As of that date it had received no warranty claims, injuries or deaths tied to the mix-up.
Who is affected and what to do
NHTSA numbers the new campaign 26V663; Honda calls it PPW. Honda’s October 14 statement lists 2,745 CR-V Hybrids and 2,058 Accord Hybrids from model years 2023 through 2026, plus one 2025 CR-V fuel-cell vehicle.
Dealers will inspect each kit and, where needed, swap the nozzle for a redesigned one that drops the troublesome one-way valve. The work is free. Owners can enter their VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup or on Honda’s recall website. Until the repair is done, Honda tells owners not to use the kit they have. After a flat tire, they should call Roadside Assistance at 866-864-5211.
Not the only follow-up recall this year
The detail that matters is that this is a pattern of sorts. By October 16, Honda had filed 14 U.S. safety recalls in 2026, covering roughly 3.1 million vehicles. Some models appear in more than one campaign, and the total includes Acura vehicles and Honda motorcycles.
In July the company recalled another 325,588 Odysseys because water could corrode the circuitry in the rearview cameras. That was also a second try. Some Odysseys had already been fitted with redesigned cameras from the supplier Magna under a 2020 recall, but those replacements still let water in. The July campaign swaps them for cameras from a different supplier, Sony.
