PARIS, October 17, 2026 — BYD has officially unveiled the Atto 8, a new seven-seat electric flagship SUV designed to challenge the established leaders of the European market. The vehicle made its debut at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, introducing a suite of high-performance battery and charging technologies to the region.
Flagship Specifications and Performance
The Atto 8 represents a significant expansion of the company’s European lineup. Measuring 5,040 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,760 mm tall, the SUV is positioned to compete directly with large electric vehicles like the Kia EV9 and the Volvo EX90. According to BYD, the vehicle is specifically tailored for buyers seeking a seven-seat configuration without compromising on performance or interior space.
The SUV is available in two powertrain variants. The Design RWD model features a single rear motor producing 456 hp and 365 Nm of torque, achieving a 0 to 62 mph time of eight seconds. The Excellence AWD version adds a front motor for a combined output of 764 hp and 775 Nm of torque, which improves the 0 to 62 mph acceleration to 4.6 seconds. Both models are powered by a 115 kWh second-generation Blade battery. The Design RWD offers a WLTP range of up to 405 miles, while the high-performance Excellence AWD provides a range of 374 miles.
Breakthrough Flash Charging Technology
The most notable innovation in the Atto 8 is the introduction of BYD’s Flash Charging system. According to the company, this technology allows the vehicle to reach a 10% to 97% charge in nine minutes under optimal conditions. When using a compatible charger, the battery can reach 70% capacity in five minutes. Even in extreme cold, with temperatures as low as -30°C, the system can charge the battery from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li described the technology as a breakthrough during the launch event. She stated that the company intends to remove range anxiety by making electric vehicle charging speeds comparable to refueling a traditional gas-powered car. To support this, BYD plans to have 3,000 Flash Charging stations active across Europe by the end of 2027. The company noted that these charging speeds require the use of BYD’s proprietary chargers, which are rated for high power output.
Interior Design and Configuration
The cabin of the Atto 8 focuses on utility and passenger comfort. The interior includes a 26-inch head-up display, a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen with Google Built-in, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Natural light is provided by a panoramic glass roof spanning 2.39 square meters. All seats are upholstered in genuine leather, and the front and middle-row outer seats include heating, ventilation, and massage functions.
Cargo capacity is designed for versatility. With the second and third rows folded, the SUV offers up to 1,960 liters of storage space. Even with all three rows in use, the vehicle provides 270 liters of luggage space, supplemented by a 136-liter front trunk. The Excellence AWD model further distinguishes itself with a 21-speaker DiSound audio system and an integrated front refrigerator.
Market Positioning and Availability
The Atto 8 is scheduled to arrive in European showrooms in the first quarter of 2027. While official pricing has not been confirmed, industry reports suggest a starting price in the region of €60,000. This pricing strategy would place the Atto 8 in a competitive position against other three-row electric SUVs currently available in the European market. As the company prepares for the 2027 launch, the shift toward high-speed charging infrastructure remains a central component of its strategy to capture a larger share of the European electric vehicle sector.
