US President Donald Trump gained support from countrymen when he defended that the killing of Iranian’s top military commander was prompted by a “bold and decisive action to save American lives and deliver American justice.”

Trump ordered a U.S. drone strike on January 3 that reportedly killed General Qasem Soleimani whom the president suspects of organizing violent protests at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and backing the rocket attack in Iraq that took the life of an American contractor.

“Soleimani was actively planning new attacks and he was looking very seriously at our embassies and not just the embassy in Baghdad, but we stopped him and we stopped him quickly and we stopped him cold,” Trump said.

The Republican President also blasted Democrats who criticized and accused him of recklessness for launching the strike against Iran. The opposing leaders even asked for more information and have passed a resolution that seeks to limit Trump’s military powers.

Trump, noting that imminent danger was posed by Soleimani that day, explained: “We got a call. We heard where he was…And we had to make a decision. We didn’t have time to call up Nancy [Pelosi], who is not operating with a full deck.”

The defense move against Soleimani was grasped by Republicans as the killed general was perceived as a “bad guy and blood-thirsty terror” in the Middle East.

Trump’s extensive remarks on the tensions with Iran were delivered during his first rally campaign, for 2020, that was held in an 8,000-seat Huntington Center in Ohio.
